This is my dog, Gus. He is a Great Bernese and is only halfway done growing. He has many different moods, but luckily he was calm during this photo. He's really funny at times and is fun to walk or play with. This photo was taken in my backyard. There is a swing set and two houses nearby so I made sure to not get those in the photo. I couldn't really get Gus to cooperate, so I had to keep circling him to get good photos.
During these portraits, lighting definitely played a big role, especially in the color photos. Natural lighting makes the subjects look less yellow and the picture look more natural overall. Selective focus is crucial for portraits. Portraits depend on having the person/animal be the center of attention, which means focusing on the person/animal. I feel accomplished that I was able to get non-distracting backgrounds for these photos.
